Adaptive Subband Compression for Streaming of Continuous Point-on-Wave and PMU Data

A data compression system capable of providing real-time streaming high-resolution continuous point-on-wave (CPOW) and phasor measurement unit (PMU) measurements is proposed. Referred to as adaptive subband (ASBC), the proposed technique partitions signal space into subbands adaptively compresses signals based on each subband's active bandwidth. The conforms existing industry standards, making it suitable for CPOW PMU either in or burst on-demand/event-triggered modes. Experiments synthetic real show that ASBC reduces sampling rates by several orders magnitude while maintaining precision required standards.
